Pain is a powerful motivator.

I’ve been sick as a dog this week, flat on my back for six days with a stomach bug. Totally incapacitated, I started thinking for the millionth time about how important my health is. Without it I have nothing.

I thought about all the women who are exhausted from working too hard, not putting themselves first or setting enough boundaries. I wondered how bad does it have to get before we decide to create change in our lives?

Pain is a powerful motivator.

How many times do we have to fall down the basement stairs, clunking our heads on every step, before we finally get up and decide to turn the light on? Maybe the light switch is at the bottom of the stairs for a reason. Maybe it’s because we are all human and need to get knocked around a few times before we get the message to make a change.

Pain is a powerful motivator.

In my monthly confidence newsletters I talk a lot about taking time outs because so many women are exhausted.. I got some pushback.“Laura, you don’t understand! I don’t have the time”.  But sadly, we do have the time to get sick.

Change begins to happen when you think differently about your problem. When you think about it with an “OhYes I Can” mindset.

  • Can you take naps on weekends?
  • Instead of a weakness, consider your nap as an essential vitamin pill.
  • Can you consider going to bed earlier and turning devices off after 6PM?
  • Can you plan to take just one mini nap during the week, on your lunch hour?
